Power Lunch Networking 2021-08: guest: Halli Lorenzato on Empathy
Join SDEBA Members and guests for our virtual “Power Lunch Networking” − 2nd Wednesdays from noon to 1pm. Come ready to share your 15 to 29 second pitch! A fast-paced, fun opportunity for you to let everyone on the call hear what you offer AND build community by rooting on your peers.
Our guest will be Halli Lorenzato on the topic: "If I Were You: A Chat about Empathy."
Halli says: "We can hone our own empathy, even in very challenging situations, to produce better outcomes."
Particularly in these changing and uncertain times, the ability to step into the shoes of another person, through imagination and curiosity, is the greatest builder of humane behavior. This is the key to the kind of enlarged world vision we need in order to make good choices for our future. By understanding more possible perspectives, people expand their mindsets to find common ground, respect, and cooperation. Learning how to increase empathy bridges gaps to make our work environments, our lives, and the world a more caring place.
During the session, she'll help clarify the meaning of a word that everyone says everybody else needs more of, and why, in fact, we all could use an empathy boost these days. She'll also talk about how to recognize when empathy can be a powerful tool in creating the best possible results for both parties.
Halli Lorenzato is a USC Adjunct Professor and the author of the upcoming books, If I Were You: Finding Common Ground Through Empathy and The ‘If I Were You’ Workbook: Exercises in Empathy Building . Her masters thesis focused on empathy in today’s society.
